The PSF UK sent the UK National Team to take part in the 18th Belgian Open Championships in early May. The Championships, open to Pencak Silat clubs from all PERSILAT member countries, took place in Schoten, near Antwerp, on 4 & 5 May.
Almost 150 competitors from 11 countries took part in the Championships which were for Tanding categories only. The PSF UK delegation was headed by Bapak Aidinal Alrashid (President), & the PSF UK team consisted of 5 athletes, in male weight categories B, C, D and Open.
Sean Kardar, fighting in male class B, defeated his opponent Shafiq Fitri Bin Darun Isa from the Pahang Malaysia team, to go through to the Finals. In the second round, Sean was to fight Johan of Indonesia. He fought well, but lost the fight, but won Silver for the UK.
Samir Ghanim, current Open Class European Champion, won his fight against Nick Bos from Holland, & won Gold.
The PSF UK delegation also included Irfan Alrashid - Vice President, Sue Gault - Secretary General, Karin Langle - Treasurer, and Thomas Mohamed - PSF UK Coach.
