The Pencak Silat Federation UK (PSFUK) organised an inter club championship between 3 different Silat schools, Gerak Ilham, PSHT and Harimau Minangkabau
The 17th World Pencak Silat Championships took place in Denpasar, Bali in December 2016, with 5 British fighters representing the UK. The PSF UK team was one of 38 teams taking part from across the world in the Sports (Tanding) & Artistic (Seni) categories.
The first Dutch Open Championships hosted by the Netherlands Pencak Silat Federation was held in Roermond, The Netherlands, on 27 & 28 August this year, at the Herteym Sports Hall.
The 2015 World Pencak Silat Championships took place at the Saphan Hin Stadium Phuket, Thailand, earlier this year, with two British fighters representing the UK.
The PSF UK recently attended a wonderful celebration of Indonesian culture in London. The Indonesian Weekend, held from 28 – 29th May next to Tower Bridge on the bank of the Thames included fantastic Silat performances.
The PSF UK was pleased to assist Arsenal Football Club in producing and releasing a video which will be a big hit with its supporters in Indonesia, with first-team stars Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Nacho Monreal trying the martial art Pencak Silat.
Bapak Mohamed Rifai Sahib, or, as he preferred to be known, Pak Rifai, was a man of tremendous energy. One of the most senior masters at IPSI, the Indonesian Pencak Silat Federation, he was a performer, a choreographer, a teacher and an ambassador for Silat.
The PSF UK sent the UK National Team to take part in the 19th Belgian Open Championships, on 3 & 4 May. The Championships, open to Pencak Silat clubs from all PERSILAT member countries, were held in Schoten, near Antwerp.
